About BiSE

Since 2016, the Binational School of Education (BiSE) has been the central inter-university institution for the coordination and development of teacher education at the University of Konstanz.

Tasks and objectives

As an institution operating across universities and countries, BiSE connects and works together with most of the departments and administrative units within the University of Konstanz as well as with partner educational institutions in the surrounding region in Germany and Switzerland.

BiSE’s main work priorities are the networking, professionalization and enhancement of the practical relevance of teacher education.

The common objective is to bridge the boundaries between teaching methodology, individual disciplines and educational sciences and to establish a new culture of teacher education in teaching and research.

  • To shape teacher education as a central pillar of the university’s profile
  • To prepare future teachers for the subject-related and cross-disciplinary requirements of teaching practice
  • Continuing education for working teachers

Team and binational structure

BiSE’s interdisciplinary team consists of management staff, researchers and the teaching methodology team. For the joint planning and implementation of its tasks, the University of Konstanz and Thurgau University of Teacher Education (PHTG) in Switzerland have established a binational committee structure.

Completed projects

In the framework of two projects within the “Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BiSE, together with the partner institutions, is developing and coordinating teacher education in the areas of studies, teaching, training and continuing education, research and quality assurance.
